Address for service for trade mark rights
Service: Trade marks
Sectors:
Do you need to update your UK address for service? From 1 January 2024, the only new addresses for service that will be accepted in the UK will be those in the UK, Gibraltar, or the Channel Islands
From 1 January 2024, the UK IPO requires any new address for service for UK trademarks and designs to be in the UK, Gibraltar, or the Channel Islands.
This change is due to the UK’s departure from the EU and the end of the transition period.
The address for service is an address at which you can receive correspondence from the UK Intellectual Property Office (IPO) or third parties regarding your application or registered right. It can be any address with which you, or your business, is associated, but it must be a valid address where letters can be delivered to the intended recipient.
If you file a new application /opposition concerning a trade mark or design at the UK IPO, you must have an address for service in the UK. If you do not provide a valid address for service, this could lead to your application being treated as withdrawn.
