Juha-Pekka Ruuskanen

A qualified European, UK and Finnish patent attorney, Juha-Pekka (known to everyone as JP) has worked in intellectual property since 1992 after spending several years in manufacturing industries.

 

With over 25 years of experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, JP is experienced in written and oral representation before the Examining Division, Opposition and Appeal Boards of the European Patent Office (EPO). He has represented clients (either the opponent or the patentee) in more than 50 patent opposition cases before the opposition division of the EPO and at the boards of appeal of the EPO.

 

Internationally, JP also has professional experience in patent licensing and litigation in Scandinavian territories, the UK, Germany and the US.

 

His approach is to develop a deep understanding of each client's objectives and to practical advice on the most cost-effective way to meet these goals such as via a filing strategy, enforcing or defending patents.

 

His clients are mainly in the fields of telecommunications, IT, software, machine automation and manufacturing technologies. The technical areas he covers include information technology, mechanical engineering, production technology and electrical engineering, with particular expertise in:

• control systems
• manufacturing systems;
• robotics;
• software patents; and
• telecommunications.

 

JP regularly speaks at international conferences and speaks to clients in-house regarding intellectual property, including strategy, patenting and recent court or EPO decisions.

 

He is a native Finnish speaker, fluent in English and Swedish, and proficient in German.
