Sam is a European Patent Attorney and Chartered Patent Attorney. He has worked in the profession since 2012, following two years in the pharmaceutical industry. He worked as an analytical chemist in the field of physicochemical analysis, with a particular focus on the measurement of equilibrium constants.
The technical areas he covers include:
Sam specialises in advising businesses in the chemical sectors on all aspects of their intellectual property strategies. This includes drafting and filing UK, European and international patent applications as well as opinion work advising on infringement and validity issues.
Sam has particular experience in prosecution of patent applications in the chemicals field at the European Patent Office. He also has experience of defending oppositions, including both written and oral proceedings.

Sam is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys and voluteering with the IP Pro Bono scheme to provide free advice to unrepresented innovators who are at the early stages of developing an idea. He is also on the committee for the Royal Society of Chemistry’s law group.
