Taryn qualified as an attorney and was admitted to the High Court of South Africa, before moving to the UK to pursue her interest in working abroad in 2003. She has over 20 years' experience in all aspects pertaining to trade marks, including clearance, protection, enforcement and exploitation.
Taryn has extensive experience in intellectual property management and has assisted clients with the management and organisation of various worldwide trade mark portfolios, including UK, Europe, US, Asia and the Middle East. She has acted for a range of clients across various industry sectors including consumer products, publishing and energy. She has also worked in-house at international pharmaceutical and beverage companies, and has also spent time on secondment in Indonesia.
In her approach, Taryn is client-focussed and responsive when giving commercial advice. She is friendly, approachable and pays close attention to detail.
As well as working with large-scale companies, Taryn regularly advises start-ups regarding the protection of IP and how to obtain the most value when funds are limited.
Taryn has extensive experience in contentious trade mark proceedings, including oppositions, cancellations and appeals. She has also dealt with numerous domain name complaints and achieved many successes before ICANN and Nominet.
In 2018, Taryn was on an INTA panel to discuss the implications of Brexit and she is a member of the Chartered Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys. She was recognised as one of the world’s leading trade mark professionals by World Trademark Review in the 2023 edition of WTR 1000.
