Thomas has worked in intellectual property since 2016, following completion of a physics degree, where he was awarded prizes for his academic performance, and an aerospace engineering degree. He is a European Patent Attorney and Chartered Patent Attorney.
Thomas has worked with a variety of clients, from individual inventors and SMEs, to large multinational corporations, and across a broad range of technologies.
Thomas was seconded to a client that focuses on research and development of blockchain technology, and through that experience has gained a comprehensive understanding of the technology. This opportunity provided him with an in-depth understanding of the client’s commercial objectives, the importance of a strong patent portfolio, and the potential challenges that they face.
Primarily handling patent applications in the UK and Europe, Thomas has experience of drafting and prosecuting patent applications, and also of advising on infringement issues. He also assists in the management and development of patent portfolios, including working with clients to identify and capture new inventions. This includes coordinating the prosecution of patent applications in the United States and several strategically important Asian counties, where the different requirements and challenges across the different jurisdictions need to be carefully considered.
